The Wolves put up a strong defensive effort against the Mudgee side and came out victorious, 26-10.

Lithgow's right centre, Jack Sullivan opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game, crossing the try line under the post.

Full back Josh Howarth was able to convert the kick, to start the match off 6-0.

Some 10 minutes later after some messy ball play and a lot of quick passing Sullivan pushed through the Mudgee defence to cross the line for his second try of the match.

With some tight defensive work from the Lithgow side, the Dragons were unable to put any points on the board.

"I'm very happy, I think their defence won them the game and in first half they just never gave Mudgee any options, so it was good," Lithgow Workies Wolves coach Graeme Osborne said.

With 20 minutes of the first half gone, Wolves front rower Greg Behan made a strong play in the right hand corner and crossed the try line in style.

The next 20 minutes saw both teams go back and forth and despite Mudgee fullback Tom Lawson going for the first Dragon try of the game it wasn't to be as he was held up as the half time buzzer sounded.

"I think they played some really good footy, still a lot of undisciplined errors and penalties but I suppose when they were leading by that far they probably got a bit overzealous, but I think Mudgee put a bit of niggle in, not having any points on the board," Osborne said.

Going into half time 16-0, the Lithgow side looked confident, and seven minutes into the second half, Workies left winger Nick Bender got an intercept and was too quick for the Mudgee side as he ran half way up the field to cross the try line.

Just three minutes later, Lithgow big man Tui Oloapu pushed through Mudgee defence to score his own first try of the match under the post.

Osborne said there wasn't one player that stood out to him in the match.

"There wasn't anybody out there who didn't do their role, so they all deserve the credit, they all did the hard work, they combined as a unit of 17 and that's what the result was," he said.

With just 18 minutes remaining, Mudgee found some form, with left winger Nathan Orr finding some free space. He was able to make a break and score the first try for the Dragons.

In the final 12 minutes Mudgee scored once again, with front rower Nick Harvey powering over the Lithgow defence to score under the post.

Despite missing his first kick conversion Lawson was able to make it count as he put the final points on the board.

Despite fighting back in the second half, Mudgee Dragons captain coach Jack Littlejohn said there wasn't a lot his side did well.

"We were pretty rusty today...at the end of the day it was only two tries we put on the board and they were definitely the better side today," he said.

The last 10 minutes of the game were back and forth with both teams looking for space to score extra tries but had to settle for the final score of 26-10.

Osborne said the Lithgow team had slowly been building confidence due to months of hard work.

"Mudgee were leading the comp, and we've played against Panthers and only got beat by two points so it's all looking good," he said.

"I don't think there is any team there that we can't beat, probably the only team that put one against us was Cowra and we had a lot of players out in that game, but we have them at home in a couple of weeks so we shall see."

Littlejohn said he was disappointed with the way the match turned out.

"The Lithgow team obviously come out with a lot more enthusiasm then us and they dominated from the start which was really disappointing for us because we haven't dished up a performance like that before so we have a lot to work on," he said.

"Bring on the next couple of weeks, we will have to bounce back."
